Marbled Pound CakeDelicious and easy marbled pound cake recipe after the jump! (makes 4 loafs)

Plain Pound Cake Ingredients

  • 1 pound (3 1/4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp coarse salt
  • 4 sticks softened unsalted butter, plus more for pans
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 9 large, room-temperature eggs

Chocolate Pound Cake Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp coarse salt
  • 4 sticks softened unsalted butter, plus more for pans
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 9 large, room-temperature eggs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Butter four 5-by-9-inch loaf pans.
  3. Combine all-purpose flour and salt in a bowl for the plain loaf.
  4. Cream butter and sugar with a mixer on high speed until pale and fluffy, for 8 minutes. Scrape down sides of bowl. Reduce speed to medium, and add vanilla extract.
  5. Lightly beat eggs, and add to mixer bowl in 4 additions, mixing thoroughly after each and scraping down sides. Reduce speed to low, and add flour mixture in 4 additions, mixing until just incorporated.
  6. Combine all-purpose flour and salt in a bowl for the chocolate loaf.
  7. Cream butter and sugar with a mixer on high speed until pale and fluffy, for 8 minutes. Scrape down sides of bowl. Reduce speed to medium, and add vanilla extract.
  8. Lightly beat eggs, and add to mixer bowl in 4 additions, mixing thoroughly after each and scraping down sides. Reduce speed to low, and add flour mixture in 4 additions, mixing until just incorporated.
  9. Layer mixture into loaf pans alternating between chocolate and plain batter, once full tap on counter to level the tops and swivel the mixture with a knife.
  10. Bake until a tester inserted into center of each cake comes out clean, about 75 minutes. Let cool in pans on a wire rack for 30 minutes. Remove from pans, and let cool completely on wire rack.
